Tencel™ Care Guide
TENCEL™ is valued for its softness, breathability and fluid drape. Made from wood-based cellulosic fibres, it feels smooth against the skin, handles moisture well and works particularly nicely in lighter shirts and warm-weather pieces. It is a fabric with a refined feel, but it benefits from careful handling to help preserve its shape and colour over time.
Washing
- Wash cool: use cool water, ideally at 30°C or below, to help protect the fabric.
- Choose a gentle cycle: a delicate or wool cycle is usually best. Hand washing is also a safe option.
- Use a mild detergent: choose a gentle detergent and avoid bleach or fabric softeners, which can affect the fibres and reduce longevity.
Drying
- Air dry where possible: lay flat or hang to dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat can cause damage, shrinkage or loss of shape.
- Do not wring: press out excess water gently without twisting the garment.
- Reshape while damp: smoothing the garment back into shape before it dries can help it keep its intended silhouette.
Removing Wrinkles
- Steam first: a steamer is the gentlest way to ease out creases.
- Use low heat if ironing: if needed, iron on a low setting with a pressing cloth to protect the fabric.
Stain Removal
- Act quickly: rinse stains with cold water as soon as possible to help stop them setting.
- Spot clean gently: use a mild detergent and dab with a clean cloth rather than scrubbing.
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place: hang woven garments carefully, or fold lighter pieces neatly. Avoid plastic bags for long-term storage, as they can trap moisture.
