Cotton Care Guide

Cotton is valued for its softness, breathability and versatility. Durable, comfortable against the skin and easy to wear across seasons, it is one of the fabrics we use most often. With the right care, cotton garments keep their shape well and soften naturally over time.

Washing

• Wash cool or warm: use cool or warm water to help maintain fabric integrity and reduce the risk of shrinkage.
• Choose the right cycle: a regular cycle works for sturdier cotton pieces, while lighter or more delicate weaves benefit from a gentler wash.
• Use a mild detergent: this helps preserve softness and colour. Avoid bleach unless it is specifically needed for white cotton items.

Drying

• Air dry where possible: hang or lay garments flat to dry naturally to help retain shape and minimise shrinkage.
• Tumble dry with care: if using a tumble dryer, choose a low to medium heat and remove garments promptly to reduce creasing.

Removing Wrinkles

• Iron on a suitable heat: cotton can usually handle a higher temperature than more delicate fibres. Steam or a light mist of water will help ease out creases.
• Steam as an alternative: a steamer is a quick, gentler option, especially for lighter cotton fabrics.

Stain Removal

• Act quickly: rinse stains with cold water as soon as possible to stop them settling into the fabric.
• Pre-treat gently: use a mild detergent or stain remover and dab rather than scrub, particularly on finer weaves or printed surfaces.

Storage

• Store in a cool, dry place: fold neatly to avoid heavy creasing, and avoid plastic bags for long-term storage as they can trap moisture.
