Off-Cuts is a new series built around what remains. Surplus fabrics,
samples and materials from Far Afield collections are passed on to
artists and makers we know, becoming the starting point for something new.
For the first edition, we worked with our friend Célia Esteves,
founder of
GUR.
Her studio in Bonfim sits a few streets from our own design studio
in Porto. We’ve known Célia for a while, and having both studios in
the same neighbourhood made GUR a natural place to begin.
We gave her a selection of surplus fabric samples from Spring/Summer ’26.
Célia cut them into strips and took them to the loom.

Off-Cuts is a new series built around what remains. Surplus fabrics, samples and materials from Far Afield collections are passed on to artists and makers we know, becoming the starting point for something new.

We gave her a selection of surplus fabric samples from Spring/Summer ’26. Célia cut them into strips and took them to the loom.
GUR grew from the handwoven rag rugs Célia knew growing up in northern Portugal. After developing an early design with weaver Cláudia Vilas Boas, the project evolved into a way of bringing contemporary artwork onto the traditional loom.
Our off-cuts supplied the palette this time. Different weights, colours and patterns from SS26 entered the weave as they came to hand, with fragments from across the collection sitting alongside one another in each finished piece.
The result is ten one-offs built around two Far Afield designs: Everything Is Great and Landscape.
